World Music Festival "Villes des Musiques du Monde"

The travelling accordion has travelled the world under such derivative names as the melodeon, the bandoneon and the concertina.
The programme will take you from one city to another, on intercontinental routes: from the Parisian electric ball to the Brazilian forró, the Cape Verdean funana, the Italian tarantella, the Argentine tango, the Colombian vallenato or cumbia, the Caribbean merengue....

In Europe, the "poor man's piano" has come up against prejudice: the accordion is frowned upon, old-fashioned and associated with a repertoire that is not highly regarded. But these prejudices are now being turned on their head... Young accordionists are now leading the way in traditional dance steps on the dance floors of electro and other dancefloors.

The accordion spread like wildfire thanks to trains, steelworks and factories. Carried in the luggage of sailors, missionaries and settlers, it has spawned some of the world's liveliest musical genres, and our region is sure to echo them.
