Between ritualised street dance and hip-hop culture, krump, born in the heart of the ghettos of Los Angeles, is above all the expression of a vital need: that of channelling the violence felt by a youth knocked out in a society that ignores or despises it. It is at the same time a thought, a physical and political movement, and an energy with tribal accents. Initially confidential, krump became known worldwide in 2005 with the documentary Rize by photographer David LaChapelle. Struck by the vibrant energy of this dance, David Drouard invented, with the consuming ardour of seven young dancers, a hybrid choreography between krump and contemporary dance, echoing the ecological, economic, political and migratory changes in our society. The movements of the dancers exude strength, intensity, poetry and beauty to better challenge.
