  • From Saint-Denis to Paris, discover the Napoleonic legacy

In 1263 St. Louis had ordered for the basilica of Saint-Denis the effigies of his ancestors. In 1268 he built the Sainte Chapelle* on the Ile de la Cité to preserve the relics of the Passion. The visit of these two monuments illustrates the policy of a king eager to give France a leading role in Christianity and legitimize the monarchy.
