Festival of Saint-Denis - Mahler "The Song of the Earth"

Cultural ,  Festival ,  Concert at Saint-Denis
  • This classical music festival has got international fame by inviting the world's greatest talents for 50 years!

On the program tonight: an essential and magnificent work by the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911): The Song of the Earth! With Karen Cargill, mezzo-soprano, Brandon Jovanovich, tenor and the Orchester National de France led by Robin Ticciati.

A powerful and unclassifiable work, at the same time a symphony with voice or a cycle of Lieder with orchestra, The Song of the Earth is above all that of the human condition, of solitude facing the eternal. The texts of the score, the penultimate of the composer, are signed by Mahler's hand. Inspired by Chinese poems, they question his favorite subjects and evolve, from serene youth to the final farewell.

Young director of the prestigious Glyndebourne Opera Festival, Robin Ticciati is the head of the Orchester National de France.

The two solo voices are specialists in this repertoire: the heroic and Wagnerian tenor Brandon Jovanovich meets the expressive intensity of the mezzo Karen Cargill. They both alternate in singing this earthly adventure that looks towards the sky.
